Exploration Place – Safdie Architects/SJCF Architecture
SJCF Architecture was selected by world-renowed architect Moshe Safdie to join his design team as associate architects for the new science center and children’s museum known as Exploration Place. This $26 million local project engaged the services of more than 14 specialized consultants. Communication between disciplines and the owner was key to the success of this project.
The 95,000 square foot facility is nestled in a 20-acre park along the Arkansas River near downtown Wichita. The two-building concept is connected by a pedestrian bridge that spans a pond to create an island building for the variety of exhibit galleries. The main building, which rests on land, contains the main lobby, gift shop, cafe, a 175-seat cyberdome theater, a 24-seat simulation center, exhibit shops and administrative offices.
